Your privacy

AutoLey is built so your clients' information never leaves your computer. This is what is stored, where, and why.

On your computer

Your clients, notes, documents and billing are stored in an encrypted database on your computer, protected by your master password. They are not sent to the AutoLey server or anywhere else.

What the AutoLey server stores

Only what your license, payments and search limit need:

  • Your account: email, name and language.
  • Your licenses and activated computers: the name you gave each one, its operating system, AutoLey version and when it last connected.
  • The status of your license and plan, as Stripe reports it.
  • How many research searches you run each day, to apply your plan's limit.

Activation keys, sign-in codes and sessions are stored only in irreversible (hashed) form: not even we can read them.

Legal research

When you search with AutoLey's service, your search terms pass through our server to CourtListener (by Free Law Project) and come back with the results. We don't store them or write them to logs: we only count that you made a search. CourtListener receives the search from AutoLey's account, not yours.

If you connect your own CourtListener account, your searches go straight to CourtListener and don't pass through AutoLey.

Payments and email

Payments are processed by Stripe; AutoLey never sees or stores your card details. We use Mailgun to send your activation key and your sign-in codes for My account.

This website

We use no analytics, advertising or tracking, and fonts and images are served from this site. There is one cookie only when you sign in to My account, to keep you signed in (30 days, or until you sign out). Your browser remembers the language you chose.
